Starting from buying the canvas to my first stack of oil paints and brushes - all the needful was done by Ma. I was just the artist. It still decors our living room in Kolkata, India. It was not bound when I started painting a huge canvas - 5' x 4'. I tied the two corners with strings and hung it to get an eye on the proportions and believe it or not, it is blown up from a 2" x 2" photo which I still own (in a very bad shape) Now more than 20 years old!
